Type 1@School is a Dancing for Diabetes community awareness program in which the DFD team provides Central Florida public and private schools with the tools and training they need in order to help their Type 1 students thrive. DFD provides the opportunity for school personnel to learn from experts and specialists and gain hands-on experience with the life-sustaining devices their Type 1 students use daily so they can better understand the realities of living with Type 1 Diabetes, its signs and symptoms, and best practices for keeping Type 1 students safe at school.

The Type 1@School program launched in October 2018, with Seminole County Public Schools. An event was held for SCPS staff including teachers, administrators, aids and nurses learning from experts from Nemours Children’s Hospital, Arnold Palmer Hospital, and the Diabetes Research Institute.   Dancing for Diabetes is currently working on development of Type 1 – at school program with Orange County Public Schools as well as a number of Central Florida area private schools.

As part of the Type 1@School program schools have access to Dancing for Diabetes resources including distribution of the D BOX  – a FREE starter kit providing important resources and supportive materials to help those we serve – thrive with diabetes.

It is our goal that through the Type 1 -at school program – that teachers, administrators, nurses, and families will become more confident in their roles in working together to keep Type 1 Diabetes students safe at school.
