Type 1 @ School is a Dancing for Diabetes community awareness program in which the DFD team provides Central Florida public and private schools with the tools and training they need in order to help their Type 1 students thrive. DFD provides the opportunity for school personnel to learn from experts and specialists and gain hands-on experience with the life-sustaining devices their Type 1 students use daily so they can better understand the realities of living with Type 1 Diabetes, its signs and symptoms, and best practices for keeping Type 1 students safe at school.
In October we held two Type 1 @ School sessions. We worked with 83 nurses and clinic assistants at our Volusia County outreach event and with 48 nurses and clinic assistants at our Lake County outreach event. Both sessions were part of our initiative to help schools better understand what their Type 1 students live with and how to keep them safe at school. Thank you to Kim Rossi from Nemours and to Sarah Scott from Tandem Diabetes for their help with these sessions!
